A Virtual Tour Of The Eliza
Thompson House
The Eliza Thompson House
5 East Jones Street
Savanah, Georgia 31401
Joseph Thompson, a wealthy Savannah cotton
merchant and home builder, built the Eliza Thompson House in
1847 for his wife, Eliza. It was actually the first house built on the
now historic brick lined Jones Street and the first in the Monterey
Ward. It was the third house built by Joseph for his lovely wife and
their seven children, and was completed November 6, 1847.
The Main House was actually built in two stages. The original structure
was built in 1847, with a second section, consisting of what is now the
front parlor, the Chatham and the J. Stephens rooms added around 1870.
